LS polls: Amit Shah holds roadshow in Kalol

BJP chief Amit Shah Sunday participated in a roadshow in Kalol assembly segment, which is part of Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency from where he is in the fray for the April 23 elections. The roadshow was kicked off in the evening after Shah paid tributes to Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar on the occasion of his 128th birth anniversary.

Flanked by Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and local BJP leaders on an open jeep, Shah was greeted by party workers and leaders from various residential societies and traders as his cavalcade moved through the urban area. Hundreds of local residents lined up along the roadside, and showered flower petals on Shah who reciprocated the gesture.

The procession passed through various areas of the town including Ambedkar circle, railway station, Tower chowk, Vakhariya cross road etc, before culminating at Panchwati Hanuman temple, a distance of around 7 kms from the starting point. Hundreds of BJP workers in cars and on motorcycles also accompanied Shah.

The town falls under the Kalol Assembly constituency which is represented by Congress MLA Baldevji Thakor. The Congress has won the seat on three occasions since 2007.

After the roadshow, Shah tweeted, "entire country is standing with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as chowkidar. With people's unwavering faith in Modiji I can definitely say that once more, Modiji is forming the government in the country".

Earlier in the day, Shah joined various campaign-related activities in the Lok Sabha constituency. He held a meeting with BJP workers and asked them to work hard for the party's victory.

The BJP chief also interacted with the chairmen and secretaries of various housing societies in Sabarmati, Gathlodiya and Naranpura areas of the constituency and appealed to them to re-elect Narendra Modi government for prosperous India. In a closed-door meeting, Shah requested people to give their mandate in favour of the Narendra Modi government once again for the developed and affluent India, a release said.

Shah had earlier held road shows on the day of filing of his nomination papers and on April 6. He replaced BJP patriarch L K Advani who had represented Gandhinagar seat for six times since 1991.

The BJP chief will square off against Congress candidate and Gandhinagar North MLA C J Chavda. Polling for all 26 seats in Gujarat will be held on April 23. PTI KA PD NSK NSK.
