A 56-year-old builder allegedly committed suicide by jumping off his 15th floor residence at Matunga in central Mumbai Wednesday, police said. The incident took place at Lakshmi Niketan Apartment near Indian Gymkhana in Matunga East and the deceased was identified as Mukesh Savla, police said.

Although the exact reason behind his extreme step is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that it could have been due to financial losses. "Savla, who lived with his family, went to the gallery of their 15th floor flat and jumped," a police official said.

He was rushed to a hospital, which declared him but brought-dead, he said. So far, police have not found any suicide note from his residence, he said.

Savla was founder president of the Thae unit of Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI) and director of Manas Group..
