Police personnel rewarded for busting drug manufacturing unit

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Tuesday rewarded 59 police personnel for busting a drug manufacturing unit and recovering brown sugar worth Rs 100 crore in the international market. A total amount of Rs 10 lakh was handed over to the 59 personnel of the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) and the Thoubal district police involved in the operation by the chief minister at a function here.

Singh said the reward to the police personnel was part of the state government's initiative against its war against drugs. Over 100 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 100 crore in the international market was recovered from the manufacturing unit at the residence of 40-year-old Md Mutalip in Lilong Dam area, on June 29 by personnel of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) along with the Thoubal district police.

Mutalip is in judicial custody, Superintendent of Police, NAB, W Basu Singh said. The SP had said that it was for the first that a drug manufacturing unit was unearthed in the state and such a huge quantity of drugs was seized..
