A 25-year-old man from neighboring Panipat drowned in the Yamuna river at Kairana near here Sunday while taking bath along with his three other friends in the overflowing river, said police. The victim's three friends, however, were rescued by local youths, they said.

Victim Deepu had come to Kairana in Shamli district from Panipat in Haryana along with his three friends Mohit, Vikas, and Hemant, they added. They stepped into the overflowing river near Yamuna bridge and waded into deep water when they were swept away by strong currents.
