In the morning, people offered `namaz' at Idgah and later at different mosques, including, Jama Masajid and Moti Masjid in Bhopal. "After offering prayers for peace, happiness and brotherhood at Taj-ul-Masajid, we performed other rituals.
"Thousands of people gathered earlier at Idgah, where the first namaz of the day was offered, said Shahroz, a resident of Royal Market here. Earlier, Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Governor Lalji Tandon greeted people on the occasion.
In his message, Nath said, "This festival explains the importance of sacrifice in the path of the Almighty. "Therefore, it has also been called the festival of sacrifice.
The governor, in his message, said, "The festival of Eid al-Adha gives us an inspiration for sacrifice and harmony. Our country has a tradition to celebrate all festivals with peace, unity and fervour.
