955 prosecuted for excessive honking

Kolkata Traffic Police said it prosecuted at least 955 people from in and around the city on Wednesday for excessive honking on the first day of a drive to curb the menace of noise pollution. The drive was launched to create awareness of the drivers as well as prosecute them for unnecessary honking, said Santosh Pandey, deputy commissioner of the Kolkata Traffic Police.

"We have plans to involve all sections of the society in this and it's going to be a sustained campaign," Pandey told PTI. As part of the drive, Kolkata Traffic Police pasted "No honking" posters at 700 locations in and around the city.
