Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh set up three committees today to supervise the arrangements for the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak.
Reviewing the preparations, he announced the formation of an infrastructure development committee and a celebration committee, for both rural and urban areas, besides a cultural affairs committee to draw up a comprehensive plan of events to be held at various places, an official spokesman said.
Presiding over the third meeting of the executive committee constituted for this purpose, the chief minister asked the PWD to expedite the tender process for projects worth Rs 92 crore, he said.
Giving details of the three committees, the spokesperson said the local government minister and the rural development and panchayat minister would lead the rural and urban infrastructure development committees, while the principal secretary cultural affairs will head the cultural affairs committee.
Singh, who had already submitted a detailed proposal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking financial assistance of Rs 2,145 crore for the celebrations, would soon meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to submit the state government's wish list for the central help in making the celebrations a success.
During the meeting, Singh ordered cleaning up of the holy Kali Bein on priority, where Guru Nanak Dev had spent many years of his early life.
He also asked Cooperation Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to involve 'sant samaj' in making the mega celebrations successful.
