The convicted Yashpal Singh is being awarded death penalty for 1984 anti-Sikh riots today (November 20). The Delhi Patiala Court has also announced life imprisonment for another convict Naresh Sherawat in the similar case.

Due to the security concerns, the verdict was announced inside Delhi's Tihar Jail. Both the convicts were fined with 35 lakh INR each by the court. Last week, both of them were found guilty of killing Avtar Singh and Hardev Singh at Mahipalpur area of South Delhi during the anti-Sikh riots on November 1, 1984.

The case was closed by Delhi Police in 1994 due to lack of evidence. Later a SIT on the riots further investigated the case. The survived victims identified Naresh Sherawat as the one who was carrying a can of kerosene and Yashpal initiated the fire. This is what mentioned in the charge sheet.
