Angola’s ambassador Rui Orlando Xavier presents credentials to Emperor Akihito

The new Angolan ambassador and extraordinary plenipotentiary in Japan, Rui Orlando Xavier, presented his credential letters to His Majesty Emperor Akihito in Tokyo on December 5. Ambassador, Rui Xavier was appointed by the President of the Republic on June 30 and took office on July 2.
Ambassador Rui Xavier also delivered the credentials to the deputy foreign minister of Japan, a traditional act that precedes the ceremony of presentation of credentials. He has been in the service of Angolan diplomacy since 1976 and is Angola's fourth ambassador to Japan.
Diplomat with recognized merit, Rui Xavier was Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Angola in Portugal. He also served in Angolan diplomacy in Rome, where he was a counsellor.
The Ambassador previously held the position of director for multilateral affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Akihito is the current Emperor of Japan. He succeeded to the Chrysanthemum Throne upon the death of his father Hirohito on January 7, 1989. According to Japan's traditional order of succession, he is the 125th member of the world's oldest reigning dynasty.
