Uganda blocks atleast 25 pornography sites

Kenya recently created headlines after ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru ordered Communications Authority of Kenya to probe porn sites on Kenyan Internet sphere. Now Uganda Internet service providers have a moved a step ahead by directly blocking pornography websites in fulfilment of a directive issued by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

The renowned porn websites like Pornhub, Youporn and Xvideos are among the overall 27 banned sites that cannot be accessed on the electric devices in Uganda.

According to Daily Nation, the three blue-video sites were among the top 100 most visited websites in Uganda before the ban took effect. Some of the sites were carrying leaked nude videos of Ugandan celebrities and others have been dealing in escort services (those that advertise sex workers). Even the banned sites have been offering pornographic free material for free.

There are other websites that act as proxies for the banned porn sites. The users of Virtual Private Network (VPN) can access the blocked websites.

“As I speak, we have a team that is compiling a list of other porn sites that will be blocked,” Dr Annette Kezaabu Pornography Control Committee’s Chairperson said.
