Zimbabwe’s current President, Emmerson Mnangagwa will be meeting with the teacher representatives on December 21 under the banner of Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ). The country’s head is interested to look into the problems and hear their grievances ranging from poor remunerations and demand to be paid in USD.

Wilson Gwatiringa, who is the Permanent Secretary to the President Emmerson Mnangagwa, informed Raymond Majongwe, the Secretary-General of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), that the Head of the State had agreed to meet the teachers.

“Thank you for your letter of 5 December 2018 requesting Progressive Teacher’s Union of Zimbabwe to meet His Excellency, the President. Kindly be advised that His Excellency, the President has accepted to meet the Union at State House 21 December 2018 at 10 am,” reads the letter to Wilson Gwatiringa

This comes on the backdrop of a march from Mutare to Harare by rural teachers under the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), as reported by 263Chat. Their demand to the government of Zimbabwe to immediately pay them in USD in line with the current trend by retailers and other service providers, as they have commenced claiming payments in USD.
