Zimbabwean soldiers have been accused by the sex workers living in Marondera for demanding free and unprotected sex from them.

According to Marondera-based prostitutes, some drunk soldiers who were operating from a local police camp were in the practice of compelling them to go for unpaid sex with others not ready to take protection to avoid vulnerable diseases.

The soldiers were deployed in parts of the small farming town following violent protests that rocked the area and some parts of the country mid-last month over an unpopular government decision to hike fuel prices by more than double, as reported by All Africa.

The sex workers also revealed that despite raising the matter to the local police (noting forceful free of cost sex and rape), they did not take the complaints against the soldiers. “My friends who were also raped by the soldiers were turned away when they went to make a report at Dombotombo police station,” one unnamed prostitute said.

They also revealed that they are now living in fear of these soldiers as they have reportedly become a menace in their area.
