Zambia is currently paving its way to procuring modern equipment for its defence forces. While commenting on the move, Davies Chama, Zambia’s current Defence Minister said that this was done in order to keep the defence forces abreast with modern developing trends in the ground and air warfare capabilities.

The 54-year old Zambian Minister was in South Africa’s Johannesburg in transit to Cape Town where he will be attending that country’s Armed Forces Day on invitation by his South African counterpart. According to him, the officers have been trained in operations depending on threat analysis.

Davies Chama said that Zambia is going to have close collaborations with Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries as the country currently chairs on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to maintain peace in the region, Lusaka Times confirmed.

According to him, 800 Zambian soldiers and military observers have already been deployed in varied African countries (such as Lesotho, Southern Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen among other African nations) to maintain peace. The soldiers have been deployed as part on a rotational basis as requested by the United Nations.

First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa, Naomi Nyawali issued the statement to the media.
