Over a week back, the Police in Ethiopia's Amhara Region captured 43 illegal Kalashnikov Guns and around 1,300 bullets from arms traffickers who were transporting those weapons from Gameballa Region to Gondar City.

The Federal Police Commission of Ethiopia has stated that it has seized 382 Kalashnikov Guns in the past six months from the illegal weapons traffickers. Even heavy machine guns have also been captured by the police. In a panel discussion organized by ETV, the state broadcaster, the Commission has given the figure of the captured weapons.

According to the police's reports, the trafficking of illegal weapons has been inflating in Ethiopia over the last three years mainly due to the instability in some parts of the country. Apart from generating money from the trafficking of illegal weapons, the main cause is to fuel conflict in the country to distract the government from the ongoing reform. Even it is also being claimed at the panel discussion that the traffickers have been utilizing very sophisticated means of smuggling the illegal weapons in the country from the neighbouring nations, mainly Sudan.

On the other hand, recent reports also claim that thousands of Turkish made pistols, whereas tens of thousands of bullets were seized from the smugglers in the last six months, as reported by New Business Ethiopia.
