BJP vice president Avinash Rai Khanna today hit out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi, saying it was a "serious issue" that he sought to defame the country by his remarks in London recently.

"What Gandhi has said aborad to defame the country is a serious issue. What message does he want to give?" asked Khanna.

He said the way the BJP governments have carried out developmental works in the country has disturbed the Congress so much that its leaders have begun making "absurd statements" without realizing what they were saying and what harm their remarks were causing to the country.

"The Congress is not playing the role of Opposition, it's rather engaged in defaming the country. And in Rajasthan, it is behind pelting stones at the chief minister's 'Gaurav Yatra'," he told reporters here.

Stones were pelted during Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia's public meeting in Osian in Jodhpur on Saturday last week. No one, however, was injured in the stone-pelting incident.

Khanna said the chief minister 'Gaurav Yatra' was getting a good response from the public which has disturbed the Opposition.
