Congress MLC in Telangana K Rajagopal Reddy was Friday served a show cause notice by the state party unit's disciplinary panel for alleged derogatory remarks against certain party functionaries, but the MLC said his intent was in the larger interests of the party.

The Committee, in the show cause notice, said it had once again come to their notice that the MLC had made derogatory remarks against the AICC (in charge of Telangana) General Secretary and also used 'unparliamentary and filthy' language against members of the panel committees of TPCC, appointed by the AICC president on September 19, 2018.

Pointing out that the Congress president (Rahul Gandhi) had directed all party functionaries not to rush to the press making anti-party statements, the notice said that acting, on the contrary, would attract disciplinary action. The committee asked Reddy to submit his explanation within two days.

Reddy, a former MP, allegedly made the comments against the in charge of party affairs R C Khuntia and on different party committees announced by AICC for the coming assembly elections in Telangana at a meeting Thursday.

Reddy, who addressed a press conference Friday night, said his services should have been utilized to strengthen the party. He said he had fought MLC election and won in the face of alleged high-handedness of TRS government only to reinforce the morale of party workers.

Instead of issuing him a show cause notice, the party leadership in the state should introspect on why the party had not picked up strength since the last four years, he said.

Addressing a gathering here Friday, state Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy told party leaders not to violate discipline as elections are round the corner.

Recalling Gandhi's recent directive on maintaining discipline, the PCC president said action would be inevitable if indisciplined comments are made.

Noting that the party should collectively face the polls, he said all sincere workers would get recognition and respect when the party comes to power.
