Task is to make Jharkhand corruption free, prosperous: Governor

Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Monday said efforts should be made to make the state corruption-free and prosperous.

He said good governance and social justice are two important pillars of development and corruption should not act as a barrier, said Radhakrishnan while addressing a special session of the assembly convened by the Champai Soren government to seek trust vote.

Radhakrishnan read out his speech amid slogans such as 'Hemant Soren Jindabad' and 'Jai Jharkhand' by the ruling MLAs in the House.

''Four years ago, the state government got the mandate to make the lives of the people happy and prosperous and bring all round development in the state. The task before us was to build a corruption-free and prosperous state with public welfare at its core,'' the governor said.

He said the government is working tirelessly to fulfill the aspirations of the people and continuously making efforts to eradicate corruption.

''This year, a total of 55 new cases related to corruption have been registered, 62 cases have been successfully prosecuted and 42 corrupt public servants have been successfully trapped,'' Radhakrishnan said.

Praising the effort of state government in containing Naxal activities, Radhakrishnan said, ''More than 400 naxalites have been arrested in 2023 and 269 have laid down arms under the surrender and rehabilitation policy.'' Dealing with cybercrime and criminals, a total of 102 FIRs have been registered in the past three months and 479 cybercriminals have been arrested so far, he added.

With an aim to provide facilities and rights to migrant workers in other states, Jharkhand government is trying to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with 10 states, he mentioned.

The governor said the government launched the MSME and Export Promotion Policies in 2023 to promote the MSME sector.

The IT data centre and BPO investment promotion policy 2023 and Jharkhand start-up policy 2023 have also been notified which will provide a great boost to entrepreneurship among youths, he said.

To accelerate the process of appointments, the government also sent requisition for appointments in 46,150 vacant posts to the Jharkhand State Selection Commission.

The governor exuded confidence that the members of the House will cooperate and find out solutions to overcome existing challenges and fulfill the aspirations of the people of the state.

Jharkhand’s JMM-led coalition government headed by Chief Minister Champai Soren won the vote of confidence in the assembly on Monday.

While 47 MLAs voted in favour of the motion, 29 opposed it in the 81-member assembly. Independent legislator Saryu Roy abstained.

Seventy-seven MLAs were present in the assembly during the voting.
