Congress gave identity to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and that is why he thinks about it ''all the time'', the party's general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that with the ''opportunist'' leaders joining the BJP, the Congress is reinventing itself in a newer and stronger way.

''This CM (Sarma) is known for the Congress, which gave him an identity. He was a minister for 15 years during Tarun Gogoi's tenure as CM. Later, he betrayed Congress and joined the BJP. I have never seen a betrayer like him,'' Ramesh said.

It was because of Gogoi that Sarma rose to fame, otherwise, he would have lost into oblivion, he added.

''The Assam CM thinks about Congress all the time. Sometimes he should think about governance too. Actually, he is nervous seeing the Congress's rise,'' Ramesh claimed.

He said unemployment and price rise are two big issues, and the Congress 'guarantee card' is prepared to fight against those.

Rejecting ''concerns'' about scores of Congress leaders having left the party in the state, Ramesh said dedicated young people are getting opportunities because of it.

''Many opportunists leave us to get cleaned in the washing machine. The best washing machine in the market is the 'Lotus Washing Machine'. The Assam CM used it very successfully,'' he said.

''A new and strong Congress is being formed. People committed to the ideology are joining us now. The public has made up their mind on who to vote for in this election,'' he added.

On the poll prospects of the opposition alliance, Ramesh claimed the INDIA bloc would get a clear majority by winning over 272 seats.

Asserting that Congress's Jorhat candidate Gaurav Gogoi will win by a huge margin, he claimed that an undercurrent against the ruling BJP-led NDA is there among all segments of the society.

''The PM said the last 10 years was just a trailer and the picture was yet to come. Yes, Manipur was just the trailer and we will see the full picture if we choose BJP again. They are experts in making communities fight against each other,'' Ramesh said.

He claimed that this Lok Sabha election is to ''save'' democracy and Constitution, and the diversity of the country.

''The PM said it's 'Amrit Kaal', but in reality, it is 'Anyay Kaal'. There have been injustices to farmers, youths, women, labourers and backward classes. This election is to get freedom from the last 10 years' injustices.

''The Congress' five justices with 25 guarantees are the solution to free India from the injustices. This is a guarantee of a party, not of any individual,'' Ramesh said.
