NCP-SP Appoints PC Chacko as National Working President Amidst Ongoing Power Struggle
The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) has appointed senior leader P C Chacko as its national working president. The party, registered earlier this year, faces an internal power struggle with Ajit Pawar’s faction. Both factions commemorate June 10 as its foundation day while engaged in a Supreme Court legal battle.

The Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) made a significant move on Saturday by appointing senior leader P C Chacko as its national working president. Chacko, a longstanding loyalist of Sharad Pawar, aligned with the NCP in 2021, leaving behind his earlier affiliation with the Congress.
The NCP-SP also announced Rajiv Jha as the national general secretary, responsible for office administration. This appointment comes amid a backdrop of high-profile re-alignments; notably, senior leader K K Sharma, who had switched allegiance to Ajit Pawar's faction, has now returned to Sharad Pawar's fold. On the other hand, Dheeraj Sharma, president of the youth wing, recently joined Ajit Pawar's camp.
In a nod to its origins, the Sharad Pawar-led faction, formalized earlier this year, resolved to celebrate June 10 as its foundation day, marking the establishment of the original NCP in 1999 by Sharad Pawar, Tariq Anwar, and P A Sangma after their expulsion from Congress. This internal friction culminates in a legal dispute, as both factions vie for control of the NCP's legacy in the Supreme Court.
