The power battle between the ruling Congress and BJP in Himachal Pradesh has intensified, with the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government securing stability after three Independent MLAs resigned and their resignations were accepted. This move comes just before the bye-election results for six assembly constituencies, slated for June 4.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania's acceptance of the resignations from K L Thakur, Hoshiyar Singh, and Ashish Sharma could prove pivotal as the Congress and BJP wrestle for dominance. Despite ongoing attempts by the BJP to disrupt the ruling party, Congress currently holds a majority with 34 MLAs against BJP's 25 in the recently reduced 59-member Assembly.
Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has accused the BJP of destabilizing efforts through 'money power,' vowing the Congress government will see out its full term. As tensions mount, a pending High Court verdict on a BJP petition challenging the appointment of six chief parliamentary secretaries could further reshape the political dynamics in the state.
