Transgender Candidate Shines Despite Low Votes in Dhanbad

In the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat elections, transgender candidate Sunaina Kinner received fewer votes than the NOTA option. Despite the low vote count, Kinner expressed gratitude for the support and remains committed to addressing key issues such as unemployment and water crisis.

In a notable turn of events, Jharkhand’s lone transgender candidate, Sunaina Kinner, received fewer votes than the None of the Above (NOTA) option in the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat elections, according to poll results announced on Tuesday.

Sunaina Kinner, who ran as an Independent candidate, bravely contested against heavyweight candidates from both national and regional parties. Kinner secured 3,462 votes, while NOTA garnered 7,354 votes. “I am not bothered about the number of votes I received. I am happy with the way people accepted me as a candidate and showed their love and support. I will continue my mission to serve the poor and needy and address major issues like unemployment, inflation, and the water crisis,” Kinner stated.

In a crowded field of twenty-five candidates vying for the Dhanbad seat, Kinner was one of 19 Independent candidates who garnered fewer votes than the NOTA option. Ultimately, BJP’s Dulu Mahto clinched the seat by a margin of over three lakh votes, defeating Congress nominee Anupma Singh.
