Congress Triumph in Manipur: A Resounding Message Amidst Turmoil

The Congress on Wednesday celebrated a significant electoral victory in Manipur, with the party securing both Lok Sabha seats amidst the state’s ongoing turmoil. This triumph is seen as a powerful endorsement of Rahul Gandhi's efforts in the region.

Alfred Kanngam S Arthur emerged victorious in Outer Manipur, defeating NPF's Kachui Timothy Zimik by 85,418 votes. Meanwhile, in Inner Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam won against BJP's Thounaojam Basantakumar by a margin of 1,09,801 votes.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh lauded the people of Manipur for their resilience, highlighting that the victory also serves as a rebuke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who did not visit the violence-hit state. The newly elected MPs are now tasked with steering the process of reconciliation in Manipur, which has been beset by ethnic violence since May last year.
