NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday clarified there has been no discussion within the INDIA bloc yet on engaging with TDP or JD(U) to consolidate numbers for government formation.

His remarks precede a critical meeting of INDIA bloc leaders at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence to deliberate on the Lok Sabha poll results and the potential inclusion of Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as part of a strategic move to form a government.

Amidst this backdrop, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to form the government for a third consecutive term with the BJP-led NDA achieving a majority in the Lok Sabha, despite substantial setbacks in three crucial Hindi heartland states following a fiercely contested election seen as a referendum on his leadership.

Discussing the Lok Sabha poll outcomes, the 83-year-old Pawar expressed that alongside dissatisfaction with the Modi government's functioning, voter frustration stemmed from issues like rising prices, agricultural distress, and growing unemployment.

When queried about the potential engagement with TDP or JD(U) to bolster numbers, Pawar responded there had yet to be any such discussions within the alliance.

''We have not spoken about this yet,'' he confirmed.

He further highlighted that the alliance leaders were convening on Wednesday to make collective decisions.

''I have no personal opinion. Whatever we decide, it will be a collective decision,'' Pawar emphasized. As a former Union minister, Pawar is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the opposition alliance's future course of action.

NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) fielded candidates in 10 out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and secured eight victories.
