Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar convened a crucial meeting with senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders on Thursday to assess the outcomes of the recent Lok Sabha elections and the party's standing. The assembly took place at Pawar's official residence, Deogiri, located in south Mumbai.
NCP, which contested four Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, secured victory in only one—Raigad. The participants included NCP President Ajit Pawar, Party Working President Praful Patel, and prominent state ministers such as Hasan Mushrif, Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, and Dhananjay Munde.
The gathering comes in the wake of Ajit Pawar's spouse, Sunetra Pawar, losing the Baramati seat by over 1.5 lakh votes to NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, daughter of Sharad Pawar. This is further compounded by Ajit Pawar's move last year to join the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, precipitating a split in the NCP.
