Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's recent remarks have sparked a debate over the state's social cohesion following the Lok Sabha election results in Nagaon and Dhubri. Sarma pointed to the substantial margins of victory for Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain and MP Pradyut Bordoloi as indicators of underlying social tensions.

Sarma expressed concern over the results, noting the significant lead Hussain achieved with 10 lakh votes. He also highlighted that Bordoloi's victory was secured from predominantly Muslim segments, whereas the BJP led in Hindu-majority constituencies.

The Chief Minister cautioned that the social fabric of Assam is at risk if there is no resistance from BJP or nationalist forces. Nevertheless, he remarked that another Congress win by Gaurav Gogoi in Jorhat posed no communal threat, labeling it as a result from 'one of our own.'
