The BJP's historic win in the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat ignited internal strife within the Congress, culminating in a physical altercation at the Congress DCC office. On Saturday, police registered an FIR against Thrissur District Congress Committee (DCC) president Jose Vallur and 19 other party members following a complaint by DCC secretary Sajeevan Kuriachira.
The 20 individuals face charges under various bailable sections of the IPC, including unlawful assembly, rioting, wrongful restraint, and voluntarily causing hurt. Kuriachira alleged that he was attacked by Vallur and his supporters on Friday.
This clash stems from the group close to party leader K Muraleedharan blaming former MP T N Prathapan and Vallur for the party's defeat in Thrissur. BJP's Suresh Gopi clinched the Thrissur LS seat by a margin of 74,686 votes, marking the BJP's first Lower House win in the state. Muraleedharan, who finished third with 3,28,124 votes, has announced his intention to withdraw from public life.
