In a decisive move, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Saturday endorsed Rahul Gandhi to take up the mantle of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Speaking at a crucial CWC meeting, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the urgency for the INDIA bloc to maintain unity both in Parliament and outside.
Rahul Gandhi has yet to make a formal decision, but acknowledged the sentiment expressed by the party's top brass. Kharge underscored the Lok Sabha poll results as a clear rejection of divisive politics and stressed on focused remedial measures for states where Congress underperformed.
Meanwhile, the CWC passed key resolutions praising the efforts of the Gandhi family and the party's election campaign, including a special mention for Rahul's Bharat Jodo Yatra, which energized the party's base. Separate committees will soon review the election outcomes in states that underperformed.
