In a decisive meeting on Saturday, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously called upon Rahul Gandhi to take up the mantle of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge led the gathering, which included prominent leaders Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and others.

Congratulating the electorate on safeguarding democracy, the CWC passed significant resolutions. One urged Rahul Gandhi to assume opposition leadership, while the other praised the public for voting against divisive politics and governance tactics over the past decade. Rahul Gandhi, acknowledging the sentiments, promised a decision 'very soon.'

Kharge affirmed the need for remedial measures in states where performance lagged, emphasizing the INDIA bloc's united stand in and out of Parliament. The CWC highlighted the crucial roles of Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the party's renewed strategy, reflecting a broad appeal to social and economic issues.
