In a striking refutation, Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha negated assertions by party spokesperson K C Tyagi that the INDIA bloc had proposed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as their prime ministerial candidate contingent upon his departure from the BJP alliance.

Tyagi had previously caused a stir by suggesting that Kumar was offered the prime ministerial post, should he sever ties with the BJP. Instead, the JD(U) endorsed Narendra Modi for another term as prime minister. This stance was underscored by Kumar's categorical endorsement at the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance meeting, noted Jha.

Jha clarified, ''Our party has no such information. Nor is the chief minister aware of all this. There is no such thing in our knowledge.'' He added that the pre-poll alliance with the BJP played a crucial role in winning 30 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, reinforcing the party's commitment to Narendra Modi's leadership.
