Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday emphasized the importance of humility and responsible behavior in the wake of any electoral victory.

Banerjee took to his official X handle to remind TMC leaders and workers of their duty to honor the trust vested in them by the people of West Bengal.

“Victory calls for humility and grace. I request all @AITCofficial leaders and members to recognize the trust the people of WB have placed in us and strive to honor it,” the TMC MP and nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated in his post.

The call for responsible leadership follows TMC's impressive haul of 29 out of 42 seats in West Bengal in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Banerjee, who himself secured a record margin of over 7 lakh votes in Diamond Harbour, underscored that elected representatives owe their roles to the people's mandate and should act accordingly.

Although Banerjee did not name specific individuals, his statement comes amidst the uproar over an alleged assault by actor-turned-TMC MLA Soham Chakraborty on a restaurant owner in New Town, Kolkata, related to a car parking dispute.

The West Bengal BJP shared a purported CCTV footage on its official X handle, depicting a person resembling Chakraborty engaging in violence, igniting the opposition's outrage.

“Utterly appalling. TMC MLA Soham Chakraborty violently assaults a restaurant staffer, dragging him by the collar and has his goons beat others in New Town… Mamata Banerjee’s police will do nothing because in West Bengal, the law is subservient to the ruling party’s thugs,” the BJP criticized in its post.

Chakraborty expressed regret but claimed the restaurant owner had not released other CCTV footage showing alleged provocations by the businessman.

On June 7, the BJP also lambasted a state TMC leader for suggesting “non-violent means of revenge” after an X user posted an image of garbage dumped outside a high-rise building, attributing it to the residents' voting preferences.
