Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, who won the Lok Sabha seat with the highest victory margin, resigned from the Assam assembly on Tuesday.
In a ceremony attended by Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Deputy Speaker Numal Momin, and several Congress leaders, Hussain handed over his resignation letter. The MP-elect from Dhubri was also honored with a farewell by the Congress legislature party (CLP), where senior leaders like Debabrata Saikia were present.
Addressing the gathering, Hussain expressed mixed feelings, calling it a moment of both pride and sorrow. He thanked the people of Dhubri and Samaguri for their unwavering support, marking his victory as a significant personal and political milestone.
Though stepping into the national political arena, Hussain assured that he would stay connected to state politics and hinted at a possible future return. He also noted that his decision to contest from Dhubri was driven by party strategy, highlighting the commitment and trust placed in him by the Congress leadership.
Speaking to reporters later, Hussain touched on the possibility of his son contesting the by-election for the Samaguri seat, emphasizing that any such decision would be made by the party leadership.
