Russia and its ally Belarus have commenced the second stage of tactical nuclear drills, a move aimed at training their troops in the use of nuclear weapons. The Kremlin's efforts come as a deterrent against Western support for Ukraine.
Last month, the Russian Defense Ministry announced these nuclear maneuvers, citing them as a response to the 'provocative statements and threats of certain Western officials regarding the Russian Federation.' The situation intensified after French President Emmanuel Macron hinted at deploying troops to Ukraine and NATO allies permitted Kyiv to use supplied weapons for targeting Russian territory.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, addressing reporters, underscored the significance of these drills for maintaining combat readiness amidst 'hostile decisions and actions' by the US and European allies.
