BJP Leaders Demand SIT Over Munak Canal Water Theft

BJP leaders met the Delhi police chief, demanding a special investigation team and registration of an FIR regarding the alleged theft of water from the Munak Canal and other sources by the tanker mafia. This comes amid a severe water crisis in Delhi, with accusations flying between BJP and AAP.

On Wednesday, BJP leaders rallied at the Delhi police headquarters, pressing for the establishment of a special investigation team (SIT) and the filing of an FIR concerning the alleged theft of water from the Munak Canal by the tanker mafia.

Leading the charge, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and North West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia presented a formal complaint to Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. The complaint implored the Delhi police to launch an FIR and form an SIT to identify and act against those behind the water theft.

The plea further urged authorities to dismantle the operations of the tanker mafia, accused of depriving the citizens of their water rights. The city, in the throes of a water crisis exacerbated by unprecedented heat, has seen a bitter blame game unfold between BJP and AAP. With the issue reaching the Supreme Court, a vacation bench criticized the Delhi government for its ineffective handling of the tanker mafia.
