In a dramatic turn of events on Thursday, the West Bengal police prevented BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari from entering Raj Bhavan, where he was scheduled to meet Governor C V Ananda Bose along with alleged victims of post-poll violence. The police cited Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits large gatherings, as the reason for blocking Adhikari's entry.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, condemned the Kolkata Police's 'arbitrary' decision and vowed to take the issue to the Calcutta High Court. 'I had an appointment with the Governor, and the police had the audacity to violate his instructions,' he stated emphatically.
The BJP leader accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of acting in an authoritarian manner, while TMC officials denied the allegations and claimed that their own workers had been victims of violence. The incident highlighted the escalating political tensions in West Bengal, following the recent electoral results.
