Putin Strengthens Ties with Vietnam Amid Global Isolation

Russian President Vladimir Putin, on a state visit to Vietnam, signed a series of agreements with his counterpart To Lam on Thursday. The visit comes at a time when Moscow seeks to bolster ties in Asia amid increasing international isolation over its military actions in Ukraine.

Key agreements were reached on cooperation in education, science and technology, oil and gas exploration, and health. Both leaders also highlighted their commitment to developing a 'reliable security architecture’ in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on peaceful dispute resolution and avoiding closed military-political blocs.

The US has sharply criticized the visit, pointing out the challenges for Vietnam’s diplomatic and economic ambitions amid rising global tensions. Vietnam’s 'bamboo diplomacy' strategy is under pressure as it tries to maintain neutrality and diverse international partnerships.
