In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, Congress' interim Delhi chief Devender Yadav accused Water Minister Atishi and BJP officials of playing politics over the severe water shortage in Delhi. Yadav lambasted Atishi for accusing BJP-ruled Haryana of cutting Delhi's water supply by 100 million gallons per day, calling her actions mere 'political showmanship.'
Yadav slammed both Delhi's Water Minister, who is on an indefinite hunger strike, and BJP's seven MPs for not effectively addressing the crisis. According to him, they should have engaged with the Haryana government and the Union Jal Shakti minister to resolve the issue rather than stage dramatic protests.
Atishi, who alleges Haryana has shut the gates of the Hathnikund barrage on the Yamuna river, leading to the water shortage in Delhi, vows to continue her hunger strike. Concurrently, a severe heat wave gripping the city has resulted in over 200 deaths, a fact sharply criticized by Yadav who blamed the Delhi government for inaction.
