Nine Contenders Vie for Amarwara Assembly Seat in Crucial Bypoll

Nine candidates are set to compete for the Amarwara (ST) assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh following a by-election called after the constituency's previous Congress representative switched to BJP and resigned. The main contest is expected to be between former Congress MLA Kamlesh Shah, now with BJP, and Dheeran Shah Invati of Congress.

Nine candidates are gearing up for a high-stakes contest for the Amarwara (ST) assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh, following a by-election prompted by the previous Congress representative's defection to the BJP.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Anupam Rajan, after the withdrawal deadline on Wednesday, the stage was set for nine contenders. The bypoll will take place on July 10, with votes being counted on July 13.

The race sees former Congress MLA-turned-BJP leader Kamlesh Shah contend with Dheeran Shah Invati of the Congress, following Shah's resignation from his assembly membership. Shah, who secured the seat with a significant majority in November 2023, has changed the dynamics of this historical constituency, where BJP has won only twice since 1972.
