In a remarkable display of solidarity, BJP women MLAs in West Bengal staged a protest within the Assembly premises on Monday, condemning the assaults on individuals in North Dinajpur and Coochbehar.
According to party's chief whip Sankar Ghosh, a video showing the assault on a couple in North Dinajpur district's Chopra, over an alleged illicit relationship, went viral on social media. While the video's authenticity could not be verified by PTI, police have arrested the accused, Tajmul alias JCB, following a suo motu FIR.
The BJP has alleged that the suspect was closely associated with Chopra MLA Hamidul Islam. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticized the incident, affirming it stands against such acts, and emphasized that the victims have been provided with security. In another shocking incident, a BJP woman leader was allegedly stripped and tortured in Coochbehar district's Mathabhanga on June 25.
