The Congress on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of distorting Rahul Gandhi's speech in the Lok Sabha, alleging that he insulted Hindus. Congress' media and publicity department head Pawan Khera asserted that two-thirds of Hindus had voted against the BJP, emphasizing their dissatisfaction.

Khera showcased a video of Gandhi's Lok Sabha speech, where he accused the BJP of spreading hatred and violence. Gandhi's scathing critique drew sharp rebukes from the BJP, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of labeling the entire Hindu community as violent.

Gandhi countered Modi's claims, stating he was referring specifically to the BJP and its affiliates, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), not the entire Hindu society. Khera argued that Prime Minister Modi should focus on pressing issues like the NEET medical entrance exam, instead of diverting attention.

Khera further suggested the BJP should dismantle its IT cell, accusing it of spreading misinformation. Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kiren Rijiju criticized Gandhi's speech as irresponsible and insulting to Hindus. They demanded that Gandhi substantiate his claims or apologize, particularly regarding his accusations about the Agnipath scheme and compensations in Ayodhya.
