West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee on Friday administered the oath to two newly elected TMC MLAs, overruling Governor C V Ananda Bose's directive that the Deputy Speaker perform the task.

This action ends a month-long standoff between the Assembly and the Raj Bhavan. Rayat Hossain Sarkar and Sayantika Banerjee took their oaths during a special session, following their protest against the governor's initial stance.

Governor Bose had recently shifted his position, authorizing Deputy Speaker Asish Banerjee for the task, but the Deputy Speaker recused himself, stating that it was improper in the Speaker's presence. This allowed Speaker Biman Banerjee to administer the oaths.
