Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday highlighted that every relief measure in Manipur is executed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He confirmed the government's commitment to accelerate the peace process in the state.
While addressing the media, Singh responded to questions about PM Modi's potential visit to the state. He emphasized, "All current security measures, relief work, and peace talks between the Kuki and Meitei communities are being done under the Prime Minister's leadership. They may have discussed it at the central level, but we need to resolve these issues amongst ourselves." Singh reiterated, "We've adopted a resolution to expedite the peace process. Amid the current situation, we've taken steps to review and bring peace swiftly under the guidance of both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. There has been peace here for several days now."
Earlier on Monday, Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi urged PM Modi to visit Manipur and listen to the people, suggesting that it would provide comfort to the local populace. Addressing journalists, Gandhi said that both the Indian government and all patriots should reach out and embrace the people of Manipur to restore peace.
Gandhi stated, "I believe it's crucial for the Prime Minister to visit Manipur, listen to the people, and try to understand the situation. Manipur is a proud part of the Indian Union, and it's essential for the Prime Minister to come here, especially in this time of tragedy. I request the Prime Minister to spend one or two days listening to the people, as it would provide much-needed comfort. The Congress party is prepared to support any measures that improve the situation." During a recent Rajya Sabha address, PM Modi reaffirmed the central government's efforts to normalize the situation in Manipur.
