Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Member of Parliament Sougata Roy disclosed receiving death threats after the arrest of party member Jayant Singh. Singh, a key figure from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, was apprehended for his suspected involvement in a mob violence incident on June 30.
Singh's arrest followed the viral circulation of a video showing a group assaulting a college student and his mother. Police initiated a suo motu case against Singh, exacerbating his legal troubles.
Roy informed that he was threatened twice via phone, urging him to secure Singh's release. The MP reported the threat to Barrackpore Police Commissioner and officially lodged a complaint.
