Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday fiercely criticized NATO's promise to eventually grant membership to Ukraine, asserting that Russia should aim for the 'disappearance' of both Ukraine and NATO.
In a social media post, Medvedev referenced NATO's recent summit declaration, which pledged continued support for Ukraine on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration. Speaking in Russian, he warned that Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO must end with either Ukraine's or NATO's disappearance, or ideally, both.
Medvedev's hardline stance, a shift from his previously pro-Western outlook, underscores his warnings of potential nuclear conflict should Western nations persist in arming Ukraine. As the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, Medvedev's comments reflect the Kremlin's hawkish views on what it terms an existential struggle against the West.
