After a court in Uttar Pradesh issued a non-bailable warrant against Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA Bedi Ram, Congress Spokesperson Surendra Rajput on Thursday criticized the Uttar Pradesh government. He questioned Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on when the accused legislators will be arrested in the 2006 railway paper leak case. Bedi Ram is a member of the legislative assembly (MLA) from the SBSP, headed by Om Prakash Rajbhar.
Speaking with ANI, Surendra Rajput targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating, 'The court has given the arrest order, but it is to be seen when Bedi Ram will be arrested under the administration headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Both leaders are integral parts of the government. Om Prakash Rajbhar had clearly said that you fill the job paper, Bedi Ram will do the rest of the arrangement.' Rajput added, 'Now Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has to decide whether he will keep such criminals and accused people in his cabinet or throw them out. If the Bharatiya Janata Party of Uttar Pradesh is completely transparent and does not come under the pressure of the Centre, then Rajbhar's party should be separated from NDA. If not, it will be anticipated that the Yogi Adityanath government is also involved in the paper leak.'
Commenting on the Supreme Court's hearing in the NEET-UG case, Rajput said, 'We have a lot of expectations from the Supreme Court because CBI, ED, or the Government of India is involved in a scam of thousands of crores of rupees of NEET exam. We hope that the Supreme Court will do justice to those thousands of eligible children who want to appear in NEET. But CBI or the Government of India or the special committee that has been formed, all these entities are not doing their work honestly, indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to save the criminals.' Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing for July 18 on a batch of petitions alleging paper leakage and malpractices in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, held on May 5.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra adjourned the hearing for next Thursday to allow the petitioners to file their responses to the affidavits submitted by the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) yesterday. The order noted that some of the parties involved in the case have yet to receive the affidavits, necessitating the need to prepare their responses before the arguments.
On July 11, the Central government filed an affidavit in the case, denying any mass malpractice in the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The affidavit stated that data analytics conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras shows no indication of mass malpractice nor a localized set of candidates benefitting, leading to abnormal scores.
