President Joe Biden reiterated his unwavering support for Ukraine's defense on Thursday, unveiling a new military aid package on the final day of a NATO summit. The meeting was overshadowed by concerns about growing Chinese and North Korean backing for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and internal Democratic anxieties about Biden's ability to serve another term.
Biden, in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, emphasized, "We will stay with you, period." This latest aid package—his eighth since taking office—comprises USD 225 million, including a new Patriot missile system to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses against Russian airstrikes.
Zelenskyy thanked Biden for the support, but also urged for the removal of remaining US restrictions on the use of American weaponry. As the summit concluded, NATO leaders pledged continued military aid to Ukraine and addressed concerns about China's support for Russia's war economy, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to maintain peace.
