Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called an emergency meeting of the Water Resources Department at his residence on Friday. This follows the Cauvery Water Control Committee's recommendation to release 1 TMC of water daily to Tamil Nadu.

The meeting will take place at 3 pm at the Chief Minister's Home Office Krishna. Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister DK Shivakumar, along with senior department officials and the Minister of Cauvery Valley, will participate.

The Karnataka government previously cited a severe water shortage as a reason for its inability to release any water to Tamil Nadu, even under federal directive. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah denied the BJP's allegations of water release, stating there is no water to spare. He emphasized that no water will be released to Tamil Nadu or any other state without sufficient resources.

The inter-state dispute over the Cauvery River has been a long-standing issue. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu both rely heavily on the Cauvery River for sustenance. The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal was established on June 2, 1990, to adjudicate disputes between Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Puducherry.
