Goa Monsoon Session: Key Issues to be Debated

The Goa assembly's monsoon session will be from July 15 to August 7, with 640 starred and 1,842 unstarred questions to be discussed. Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar confirmed it will last the full 18 days. The monsoon session of the Goa assembly will convene from July 15 until August 7, announced Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday.

A staggering total of 640 starred questions and 1,842 unstarred questions are set to be presented in the House over the 18-day session, he informed PTI.

''The assembly will also pass a vote on account for the next six months during the session. MLAs are anticipated to raise constituency-specific issues, fostering vital discussions aimed at the state's development,'' Tawadkar stated.

The session is assured to proceed for the full 18 working days with no cutbacks, the speaker added.

The Congress legislative party convened a meeting in Porvorim, where Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao declared his party’s intent to present nearly 1,000 questions, both starred and unstarred. ''We aim to address several critical issues such as environmental degradation from the Tanmar electricity project, railway double tracking, coal and industrial pollution, the new education policy, and political reservations for STs. The state government must not presume our compliance; with upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the dynamics have shifted,'' he commented.

Accusing the state administration of failure and deteriorating law and order, Alemao said, ''Each minister has become their own department's CM.''

Alemao also criticized the government for persistent landslides while denying Congress leaders an audience with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari during his two-day state visit. He stressed the need to blacklist the road contractors.
