The Maharashtra legislative council polls saw a sweeping victory for Mahayuti, which won nine out of 11 contested seats, a result Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut termed as a clash between money and people's power.
The ruling coalition secured all their nine seats in Friday's biennial elections, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi suffered a setback when Peasants and Workers' Party candidate Jayant Patil, backed by NCP (SP), lost due to cross-voting by opposition MLAs.
In the race for 11 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed five, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) each won two seats.
