With the Trinamool Congress (TMC) winning three seats and leading in one in the West Bengal Assembly bypolls, party leader Kunal Ghosh declared that voters who previously supported the BJP have shifted their allegiance. Ghosh asserted that this change was inevitable, emphasizing that voters did not want to waste their votes on the BJP.

The TMC leader further claimed that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre will soon lose power. He predicted that the INDIA alliance, with significant involvement from TMC, will form the next government.

Supti Pandey, TMC's leading candidate from the Maniktala constituency, expressed gratitude towards her team and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Pandey led in Maniktala by more than 62,000 votes against BJP's Kalyan Chaubey as of Saturday afternoon.

The ruling party witnessed Krishna Kalyani winning from Raiganj, Mukut Mani Adhikari from Ranaghat Dakshin, and Madhuparna Thakur from Bagda. BJP leader Shankar Ghosh stated that the party would scrutinize booth-level results to identify their shortcomings.

Ghosh mentioned that the BJP awaits the final count before evaluating where they might have faltered. He also pointed out the alleged violence by the TMC, claiming it impacted the election results. Ghosh assured that the BJP would address any organizational gaps.

The bypolls saw a voter turnout of 62.71 percent across the four constituencies in West Bengal. These bypolls were held to fill the seats vacated by Krishna Kalyani from Raiganj, Biswajit Das from Bagda, and Mukut Mani Adhikari from Ranaghat Dakshin for the Lok Sabha elections.

The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC aims to maintain its recent dominance, following its success in securing 29 out of 42 parliamentary seats in Bengal. The BJP, on the other hand, is looking to recover after its seat count in the Lok Sabha dropped from 18 in 2019 to 12.

The counting for the 13 legislative assembly seats spread across seven states began on Saturday morning, with elections held on July 10. The bypolls included one seat each in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh, two in Uttarakhand, three in Himachal Pradesh, and four in West Bengal.

The contested seats included Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda, and Maniktala in West Bengal; Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh; Badrinath and Manglaur in Uttarakhand; Jalandhar West in Punjab; Rupauli in Bihar; Vikravandi in Tamil Nadu; and Amarwara in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP and Congress were predominantly in head-to-head contests, while the TMC and DMK were also significant contenders. (ANI)
