The Mahayuti government in Maharashtra is planning a renewed push to nominate 12 members to the legislative council from the governor's quota. This move comes after a list provided by the previous MVA dispensation did not receive approval when B S Koshyari was governor.

The 12 MLC posts have remained vacant for over four years. On November 6, 2020, the Uddhav Thackeray-led government submitted a list of 12 candidates to then-Governor Koshyari, but he did not approve the names before resigning in February 2021.

Koshyari's successor, Ramesh Bais, has also not decided on the pending issue due to ongoing litigation in the Supreme Court. Sources in the state government indicated that, once the cabinet approves a proposal of 12 names, their nominations could be accepted by August, with one nominee expected to be from the Muslim community.
